Beth & Liam’s Colourful Summer Wedding at Oxleaze Barn
A joyful Cotswolds barn wedding filled with pastel florals, personal touches, plenty of emotion and one unforgettable entrance.
There are some weddings that seem to capture everything we love about summer at Oxleaze, and Beth and Liam’s beautiful May wedding was certainly one of them.
Combining colourful summer styling with traditional touches, their day felt relaxed, romantic and completely personal to them. From pastel bridesmaid dresses and meaningful pink roses to a brilliantly chaotic speech and a cheese wedding cake, their celebration was full of thoughtful details and plenty of personality.
Here’s a little more about their story and their wonderful day at Oxleaze Barn.
Their Story
Beth and Liam first met at university through mutual friends, although, as they put it, it wasn’t exactly love at first sight!
A few years later, those same mutual friends were planning a weekend away to Marseille. Beth and Liam were each persuaded to join the trip and, from there, the rest was history.
When it came to proposing, Liam chose somewhere that meant a lot to them both.
With a shared love of the mountains and Liam’s particular love for Wales, he proposed on the side of a mountain near Dolgellau, overlooking the beautiful Barmouth Estuary.
Finding Their Cotswolds Wedding Venue
When they began searching for a wedding venue, Beth and Liam knew they wanted somewhere with a rustic, relaxed feel surrounded by countryside.
Beth is originally from Stroud, so finding somewhere in the Cotswolds was particularly important to her.
After visiting a few venues, they arrived at Oxleaze and something simply clicked.
“As soon as we walked in, we both just had a feeling it was the right place. Obviously, it’s beautiful, but we loved the barn itself, the surroundings and the farm.”
Their first impression summed it up perfectly:
“This is a bit of us!”
Most importantly, they both felt relaxed from the moment they arrived, exactly the atmosphere they wanted for their wedding day.
A Colourful Summer Wedding
Beth and Liam described their wedding style as “the colours of summer mixed with the traditional touch of a tuxedo” - the perfect combination of traditional and rustic.
Pastels formed the basis of their colour palette, but rather than choosing one shade for the bridal party, each bridesmaid wore the same style of dress in a different pastel colour.
Those shades were then picked up beautifully throughout the floral arrangements, creating a colourful but wonderfully soft summer look.
Against the natural stone and rustic character of Oxleaze Barn, the result was effortlessly pretty.
The Personal Touches
Some of the most special details of Beth and Liam’s wedding were those with a deeper meaning.
There were several much-loved family members who sadly couldn’t be there to celebrate with them, particularly their grandparents. Rather than creating a sombre tribute, the couple displayed photographs of them on their own wedding days under the beautiful sentiment:
“Love stories that came before us.”
It was such a thoughtful way to remember them while celebrating the generations of love that had come before Beth and Liam’s own.
Liam had also lost his Mam, the Welsh name he used for his grandmother, the year before the wedding. Her favourite flower was a pink rose, so Liam wore one in his buttonhole in her memory.
There were plenty of lighter personal touches too.
A glowing “The Rees’” sign took pride of place above the fireplace before being moved behind the DJ booth ready for the evening party.
Beth’s dad had also secretly created a wooden board carved with “Liam & Beth – 30.5.26”, which was used to display their wonderfully unconventional wedding cake - a cheesecake made entirely from cheese!
Beth admits she didn’t actually notice the personalised board until the following day…
Apparently, a few drinks may have been consumed by that stage of the evening!
Asked to describe their wedding day in three words, Beth and Liam chose:
Unforgettable. Joyous. Emotional.
Choosing a single favourite moment was almost impossible, but for both of them, the ceremony entrance was particularly special.
For Beth, it was walking down the aisle and seeing everything they had planned finally come together, the barn looking beautiful, all of their loved ones gathered together and Liam waiting for her.
For Liam, it was turning around and seeing Beth walking towards him for the first time.
And there was a little more going on behind the scenes than their guests may have realised!
Rosie carefully coordinated five bridesmaids, followed by Beth and her dad, to walk down the aisle perfectly in time with a violin wedding version of To Build a Home.
The result was exactly the dramatic bridal entrance Beth had dreamed of – although the suspense apparently left a few guests wondering whether she was ever going to appear!
The Surprise of the Day
No wedding goes entirely according to script and often those spontaneous moments become some of the best memories.
For Beth and Liam, that came during the speeches when Liam’s dad unexpectedly delegated part of his speech to Liam’s godfather and uncle.
Their verdict?
“Chaotic and hilarious in equal measure.”
Exactly the sort of moment that simply couldn’t have been planned.
Their Experience at Oxleaze
It means so much to our team when couples tell us they were able to relax and enjoy their wedding rather than worrying about what was happening behind the scenes.
For Beth and Liam, that started long before the wedding day itself.
“The team were brilliant. Rosie and Vicki couldn’t have been more helpful and really did make the process and the day flow so smoothly.”
When we asked whether they would recommend Oxleaze to other couples, the answer was a resounding 100%.
“The communication from the get-go was second to none. Rosie and Vicki answered just about every question under the sun so quickly.”
And we have to admit, hearing that Rosie managed to deliver Beth’s dream aisle entrance down to the exact beat of the music made us particularly happy!
Beth & Liam’s Advice for Future Couples
After all the planning, anticipation and excitement, what would Beth and Liam tell couples still waiting for their wedding day?
“Trust the process! All your hard work will pay off when you see your vision come to life. Soak up every second of your day because it’s over in the blink of an eye.”
We couldn’t agree more.
Beth and Liam’s celebration was everything a summer wedding at Oxleaze should be, relaxed, personal, colourful and full of laughter.
Thank you both for choosing Oxleaze to be part of such a special chapter in your story. We loved seeing your plans come together and wish you a lifetime of happiness together.
