There’s something special about a wedding that feels completely true to the couple - natural, timeless and full of personality without ever feeling overdone. Samara and Joe’s beautiful wedding at Oxleaze Barn was exactly that.

With a classic English countryside setting, soft blue and pink details, beautiful florals and plenty of thoughtful personal touches, they created a day that felt relaxed, joyful and effortlessly elegant.

From Meeting Through Friends to a Salcombe Proposal

Samara and Joe first met through friends and, after around five years together, became engaged in Salcombe on a rainy February day.

When it came to planning their wedding, they had a clear idea of what they were looking for. They wanted somewhere authentic and naturally beautiful - a venue with character that didn’t need to be dressed up simply for the sake of it.

They wanted somewhere timeless and classic, but also somewhere that was beautifully run and would allow them to relax and enjoy their day.

Why Samara & Joe Chose Oxleaze Barn

From their first visit to Oxleaze Barn, Samara and Joe knew it felt different.

They loved the feeling of arriving at the venue, particularly the sense of remoteness and the way the drive in immediately began to set the tone for the wedding day.

Most importantly, they felt completely comfortable at Oxleaze.

“We felt so comfortable at Oxleaze and just like ourselves.”

That feeling of authenticity was incredibly important to them. They didn’t want to choose a venue that felt like it was trying to be something it wasn’t, and Oxleaze gave them exactly the atmosphere they were looking for.

They also fell in love with the classic English countryside setting. The grounds and buildings are naturally beautiful and so well kept that very little is needed to make the venue feel special.

As Samara and Joe put it:

“Oxleaze is a beautiful place and doesn’t require dressing because it’s great as it comes.”

That also meant they could add personal touches without feeling like they needed to completely transform the venue. The different spaces were another huge advantage, giving them plenty of options throughout the day while keeping everything close together and encouraging guests to mingle and socialise.

A Timeless English Country Wedding Style

Samara and Joe wanted their wedding style to feel timeless rather than trend-led. They weren’t interested in creating a day solely around getting the perfect photographs; instead, they wanted to create an atmosphere that would still feel beautiful and relevant years from now.

Their colour palette combined white with soft blues and pinks. They didn’t want to go too colourful, but equally didn’t want everything to feel too plain.

The result was a gentle, uplifting palette that complemented the English countryside setting perfectly. The subtle colours brought a summery feel to the day while retaining the classic, timeless aesthetic they had envisioned.

They also included some personal DIY touches, including their own bud vases, which they particularly loved. Personalised coasters on the tables added another thoughtful detail and helped make the celebration feel uniquely theirs.

Happy, Sunny and Delicious

Asked to describe their wedding day in just three words, Samara and Joe chose:

Happy. Sunny. Delicious.

It certainly sounds like the perfect combination.

One of their favourite moments was when the main meal came out. For them, the food was a real highlight of the day and was simply “perfect”.

The sunshine also made a memorable impression - perhaps more than they had anticipated! The unexpected heat meant that personalised handheld fans became an essential addition and made all the difference in keeping everyone comfortable.

A Wedding Team They Could Trust

Planning a wedding can be a huge undertaking, particularly when you’re someone who likes to be in control.

For Samara, one of the biggest positives of their Oxleaze experience was how supported they felt throughout the planning process.

They described the process as ideal and were hugely appreciative of how organised and on top of everything the team were.

“As someone who is a control freak, I was surprised how much I could trust the Oxleaze team.”

Being able to hand over elements of the planning and know they were in safe hands meant Samara and Joe could enjoy the experience rather than feeling overwhelmed by it.

On the day itself, their guests were equally impressed. The couple received lots of compliments about Oxleaze Barn, with guests commenting that the venue had everything they could possibly need and that the layout was ideal.

Without hesitation.

Samara and Joe gave Oxleaze a 100% recommendation, describing it as:

“A genuine venue ran by amazing people and delivering pure class.”

For them, Oxleaze offered the perfect combination of natural beauty, character, atmosphere and organisation.

It gave them the freedom to add their own personality while providing a beautiful backdrop that didn’t need to be changed or disguised. Most importantly, it allowed them to feel completely themselves throughout their wedding day.

Their Advice for Couples Planning Their Wedding

Their biggest piece of advice for newly engaged couples is to book your venue early.

Samara and Joe booked Oxleaze Barn around two years before their wedding day, which gave them plenty of time to secure their other suppliers gradually rather than having to make rushed decisions.

“Book the venue early and it takes away so much stress because you can book suppliers over the course of time rather than in a rush.”

It’s advice that can make a huge difference. Once your venue is booked, so many other wedding planning decisions begin to fall into place, giving you the time and space to create a day that feels personal and considered.

Ultimately, Samara and Joe’s Oxleaze Barn wedding was a wonderful example of how timeless doesn’t have to mean traditional or predictable.

By choosing a naturally beautiful venue, keeping their styling soft and classic, and adding meaningful personal details, they created a celebration that felt authentic from beginning to end.

And perhaps that’s the best description of all: they chose a venue where they could simply be themselves, surrounded by the people they love, enjoying beautiful food, sunshine and a day they will remember forever.
